Happy Veteran's Day

November 11, 2011, Friday - The kids had off today for Veteran's Day. We decided to go on a leaf hunt. The trees are still so beautiful from the changing leaves. We had a lot of fun finding neat leaves. We ended up at the Guilford Court House Military Park. This is the site of a battle on 3-15-1781 in the Revolutionary War.
Thank you to all the military who have fought in the past, present and future for America and for the freedoms we have today. Happy Veteran's Day!

1st Quarter

November 9, 2011, Wednesday - Reports card have come out and Brittany and Nathan did super! We attended the Awards Ceremony for 4th Grade. Brittany got A Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance for the 1st Quarter. Keep up the good work!

Happy Halloween

October 31, 2011, Monday - Happy Halloween, Everyone! When the kids got home from school we started working on carving the pumpkin. The kids did a great job this year helping with the whole process. We got our biggest pumpkin ever this year and it took us longer to clean out the insides. The kids also did their own pumpkins. We made festive food for our neighbor party. Mom, Dad and Grandma came over and handed out candy for us so we could go around with the kids together. It was a chilly night. The kids enjoyed trading their candy with each other and Macie after the Trick-or-Treating. They brought home about 280 pieces of candy. Oh My!

October 30th

October 30, 2011, Sunday - We attended church in the morning. For lunch we had yummy pizza and even some neighbor friends joined us. Then the kids had fun doing a ghost pinata that was left by someone (they were Booed). No rain today - yeah!!! The kids got to try out their new Barbie Jeep that Brittany gave to her cousins. We can tell it will get a lot of use. We headed out about 2pm. Thank you guys for a great weekend!

Road Trip

October 28 & 29, 2011, Friday and Saturday - The kids had a teacher workday on Friday and so Chad took off some time from work and we drove 5 1/2 hours to visit my brother Cory and his family. They moved into a house the end of August from Holland and we have not had a chance to visit until now. We drove in the rain for about 95% of the drive. The kids did great. We arrived about 9pm. The girls were eager to give Nathan his birthday present.
The next morning Sara and Cory had a delicious breakfast for us, the kids played & it is still raining outside. Later we decided to pack everyone up and go visit the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum (also called Dulles Air & Space Museum). Very cool place! They were able to get one of the Space Shuttles when they retired them. It was so amazing to see it first hand and close up. We also got to see the air craft that Cory is now involved with in his new job. We had lunch at the McDonald's that was in the museum. At 2pm they were doing their annual Air & Scare for Halloween that we didn't know about it until we got there. So at 2pm we took the kids around to different stations and they collected candy. Yeah! They had a lot of fun. David, who was tired, was able to find energy to walk the whole way around and collect his candy too!
When we left the museum it was snowing! The kids loved that! We headed home and the kids changed into their Halloween costumes and we went to the Methodist Church that they have been attending for the Harvest Festival. The kids painted pumpkins, had dinner, got candy, watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, decorated cookies & just had a wonderful time.

Soccer & Skates

October 27, 2011, Thursday - Nathan played in his first tournament game tonight against the Cobras. We ended up loosing 1-2. They played hard though. We presented Nathan with a trophy after the game. He was very excited. He had a great season. Chad then headed home & I took the kids to the school Skate Night. They changed into their Halloween outfits in the car. We got there at 8pm and they got to skate for 1 hour. They are both getting better and better at skating.

Happy Birthday, Nathan

October 24, 2011, Monday - Today my baby boy turns 7! Wow - where does time go?! I brought popcorn and Honeycomb to share with the class for snack to celebrate Nathan's special day. Some schools allow sweets, but our school is one that does not so you have to be creative in what you can serve. You can also not make anything, it has to be package food. Makes it tough for celebrations, but the kids enjoy whatever you share with them. Happy Birthday, Nathan!
